PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The asteroid Psyche is located in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, largely constructed of iron and nickel, rather than ice or rock. 16 Psyche’s composition resembles the Earth’s core, as well as other terrestrial planets’ cores, and could be instrumental in understanding their genesis.

Being the first NASA deep space mission led by ASU, visual art and musical compositions have been created to commemorate it. A litany of issues arise when it comes to displaying musical compositions. Unhygienic, expensive, and difficult to reproduce designs frequent the market, showing themselves to be largely unsuitable for the purpose of educating patrons in a tumultuous gallery environment. Owing to this gap in the marketplace, Team 15 has resolved to design an accessible, replicable, and sanitary “sound booth’ that will successfully display Psyche-inspired musical compositions in noisy and disruptive conditions!

This work was created in partial fulfillment of the Arizona State University Capstone Course “EEE 488/9.” The work is a result of the Psyche Student Collaborations component of NASA’s Psyche Mission (https://psyche.ssl.berkeley.edu). “Psyche: A Journey to a Metal World” [Contract number NNM16AA09C] is part of the NASA Discovery Program mission to solar system targets.
