“Mission Psyche: Cartographer’s Map” shows the solar system through an old cartographic map. The sun is in the center, accompanied by a banner with the word “Sol.” Around the sun are the planets’ orbits. Each planet has a banner with its name. Near Earth, we see the Psyche spacecraft following a dotted line that leads around Mars and to the Asteroid Belt, the location of the Psyche Asteroid.

A colorful hand-illustrated poster shows a spacecraft flying past Mars on its way to Asteroid 16 Psyche. A curved trail reading “a slingshot into space” represents a gravity assist. Mars, the spacecraft, and the asteroid are colored using the Psyche Mission palette of purples, oranges, and pinks. Subtle organic textures appear throughout the image, created by drawing against rough wooden boards.

Projected across a panoramic wall, visitors see an interactive environment recreating Psyche’s landscape and an orbiting spacecraft. The exhibit combines many theories of what Psyche looks like. The asteroid is shown to have a gravel-like regolith covering solid rocky ground. Craters from past collisions form deep valleys, revealing patches of raw metal buried just beneath the rocky surface.
